DAY SEVEN: ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Today was chiefly a travel day, as we bid farewell to our friends at the monitoring center early in the morning and, after some hot, sweaty waiting, caught a hot, sweaty bus to Morogoro (complete with a sick person lying in the aisle) to reunite with Kellee. Upon wrapping up our business at the university, collecting our gear and settling our debts, we boarded another bus—this one a bit more comfortable—to Dar es Salaam to meet up with others gathering for the upcoming CEPF workshop. Impalas at dawn

We arrived at our destination in the early evening, a bit smelly and dirty from our travels. But we were warmly greeted with cold beverages at the hotel. (One of my colleagues complemented me on my tan, but alas, it was just a substantial layer of dirt.) We got caught up, quickly cleaned ourselves up, and joined our colleagues for dinner.

It’ll be an early morning tomorrow, as we take an early flight into Unguja Island, Zanzibar, to visit Jozani Forest and learn more about a CEPF-supported project there. Almost as excited about the night’s sleep in air-conditioning as seeing Zanzibar for the first time.
