Call for Proposals

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) launched its first, major investment in the Western Ghats region of India in December 2008 to help ensure conservation of the rich biodiversity found there as well as to preserve the diverse ecosystems that service over 200 million people in the region.

Today, CEPF announced its second call for proposals in the Western Ghats.

The region stretches across 180,000 square kilometers of the Western Ghats and Sri Lanka biodiversity hotspot.

Seventeen projects selected from the first call for proposals are now under implementation or in the process of being finalized as part of the $4.5 million investment planned for the region.

Under this new grant opportunity led by the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), CEPF’s regional implementation team for the region, letters of inquiry are invited from organizations for selected investment priorities as outlined in the CEPF ecosystem profile for the region.

Based on the investment strategy developed with stakeholders in the region, CEPF investments will promote innovative partnerships between nongovernmental organizations, government, local communities and landowners to enhance conservation and connectivity in five landscape corridors in the Western Ghats. The strategy also includes a focus on improving the conservation of globally threatened species through systematic conservation planning and action.
