Explore the Biodiversity Hotspots

CEPF grantees work in developing and transitional countries in the world's biodiversity hotspots—some of Earth's most biologically diverse yet threatened terrestrial areas. Since 2001, CEPF has funded conservation in 25 of the 36 hotspots.

Guinean Forests of West Africa
Currently investing
The Guinean Forests of West Africa Biodiversity Hotspot extends across the southern part of West Africa and into Central Africa, covering all or part of 11 countries. At least 936 species of plants and animals found in the hotspot are globally threatened, and this number is likely to increase as more species are assessed. Some 85 million people live here, too. Therefore, efforts to protect biodiversity must, in tandem, strengthen local livelihoods.
