Explore the Biodiversity Hotspots

CEPF grantees work in developing and transitional countries in the world's biodiversity hotspots—some of Earth's most biologically diverse yet threatened terrestrial areas. Since 2001, CEPF has funded conservation in 25 of the 36 hotspots.

Coastal Forests of Eastern Africa
Currently investing
Stretching along the eastern edge of the continent, the Coastal Forests of Eastern Africa Biodiversity Hotspot is a chain of relict forest and thicket patches set within savanna woodlands, wetlands and—increasingly—farmland. Though typically tiny and fragmented, this hotspot's forests contain remarkable biodiversity, which often varies dramatically from one spot to the next.
