The Wild Bird Trust is working with rural communities living along the Amathole mountain range between Hogsback and Stutterheim, among the most economically disadvantaged regions in South Africa. In an effort to prevent the extinction of the Cape Parrot (Poicephalus robustus, and known as the iziKwhenene in the local language, Xhosa), the Wild Bird Trust is engaging community members to plant indigenous trees, install nest boxes, and establish a small Cape Parrot sanctuary in an existing pecan tree orchard.
