Strengthen policy frameworks to stop destructive mining practices in ecologically sensitive areas in and around Pilón Lajas protected area. Support the strengthening of municipal-level policies to prohibit destructive mining, communications on the impacts of illegal mining, building local capacity of women miners to promote sustainability, assessing mercury levels in local fauna, developing a strategy to prohibit destructive mining on indigenous territories, and strengthening organizational capacity to integrate gender considerations.
